TVW Video Now Available on Washington Legislature’s Website
Citizens can now access live and archived video of Washington state legislative committee hearings through links on the State Legislature’s website (www.leg.wa.gov) TVW announced today.
This new collaboration between the Legislature and the state public affairs television network, which has been independently broadcasting and streaming legislative proceedings statewide for over 16 years, will provide the public even greater access to the legislative process, according to TVW President Greg Lane.
“TVW either broadcasts or webcasts virtually every public meeting held by the Washington Legislature,” explained Lane. “We provide, in essence, a near complete audio and video record of the legislative process as an information resource for the public.
“But previously, citizens had to go to TVW’s website to view any of those proceedings,” he continued. “Now, they can access the video directly from the Legislature’s bill information web pages. Not only will this be more convenient for citizens looking for information about specific legislation or public policy, but it will also greatly increase awareness that video of the meetings is available to view.”
Specifically, the video links have been added to the Bill Information pages on the legislative website. So when anyone accesses the information page on a specific bill, links to video provided by TVW are now included along with the bill history and legislative documents.
“This improvement in public access to the legislative process would not have been possible without the commitment of the legislative leaders and administrators in both the House and Senate, as well as the hard work of the Legislative Service Center staff,” said Lane. “We thank and commend them for their support and work on this project, and we look forward to exploring further integration of the TVW resource in the future.”
TVW also offers access to all programming at TVW.org. Viewers can watch a live stream of TVW’s television signal, stream live webcasts or view any of TVW’s 65,000 hours of archived gavel-to-gavel events and produced public affairs programs.
